Working as a translator

Working as a translator can be tough, especially if you are a freelancer and want to work from home. You have to choose your clients carefully. Some are serious, some are not. Just like translators. Nowadays, it is enough to have a diploma and you consider yourself a translator. I am telling you, it is not enough. You have to be a specialist in a certain field, you have to read a lot, to stay in touch with what is new in order to understand the source text. If you cannot understand the source text, nobody will understand the target text. Some translators say they are experts in all the fields. I would never hire them.
As a translator, you have to respect yourself. You have to ask the right price and give the perfect work. This is the only way, you can remain on the market.
